Hablar de comida implica hablar de un amplio universo de elementos y valores estéticos y simbólicos. La comida representa mucho más que el conjunto de alimentos que ingerimos para satisfacer la necesidad básica de nutrirnos y el acto de comer lleva intrínsecas una serie de connotaciones y comportamientos que nos caracterizan como seres sociales. Por un lado nuestro cuerpo y mente reaccionan ante los alimentos, pues nos provocan sensaciones, pensamientos y evocan recuerdos. Por otro lado, el alimento se convierte en un elemento capaz de congregar y unir a los seres –humanos e incluso animales– alrededor de una actividad que es comunicación y en la que se comparten mucho más que porciones de alimento.
En este libro digital se presentan algunos resultados de investigación que evidencian la diversidad cultural gastronómica de Colombia. Las historias van desde la emblemática Cartagena hasta las playas de Tumaco; nos habla del campo y las grandes urbes no solo de dicho país sino de ciudades de todo el mundo como Nueva York, relatos que se adentran en el espíritu de las plazas de mercado y las nuevas tendencias culturales y nutricionales de autocuidado. La selección de los proyectos tuvo como criterio no solo la calidad del registro y el rigor en la indagación sino también el compromiso con la pregunta ¿quiénes somos? a partir del camino de la antropología visual.

Este libro parte de la idea de que la imagen de la selva Lacandona y los indios lacandones —arraigada desde el siglo XX en nuestra imaginación colectiva— proviene de la proliferación de fotografías que sobre esa región se realizaron en la década de 1940. Esta obra es un fotorreportaje en cuatro entregas publicado por la revista ilustrada Mañana en 1944, donde dos periodistas Ricardo López Toraya y Antonio Rodríguez viajaron comisionados al Desierto de la Soledad acompañando a una expedición financiada por Petróleos Mexicanos. Este fotorreportaje condensa dos formas narrativas constitutivas del imaginario sobre la selva Lacandona: la descripción y construcción que el texto hace del espacio físico y de los indígenas y las fotografías que ilustran estos textos que nos acercan a otra manera de contar, presentar y producir la historia de la expedición. Así, puestos frente a las imágenes tangibles en las páginas, ya sea a través de las que el texto genera en nuestras mentes o las que las fotografías nos ofrecen, iniciamos un recorrido casi arqueológico por los recovecos menos explorados, difundidos y conocidos de la historia de las expediciones a esa región, los encuentros con el paisaje y sus pobladores.

En este libro, Patricia Lange ofrece una perspectiva antropológica sobre este entorno social fuertemente mediado, demostrando cómo los conceptos centrales de la antropología (observación participante, reciprocidad y comunidad) se aplican a la sociabilidad en YouTube y describen culturas de intercambio de videos. Basándose en 152 entrevistas con participantes de YouTube en todo Estados Unidos, análisis de contenido de más de 300 videos, observaciones de interacciones dentro y fuera del sitio y observación participante (en la que la investigadora se convierte en parte de la comunidad que examina), Lange proporciona nueva información sobre los patrones de migración digital, la influencia de YouTube en las interacciones sociales incluso fuera del sitio, y cómo la pérdida de control sobre la imagen hace que los usuarios se sientan posthumanos.

El Proyecto Carnaval Zoque inició en septiembre de 2014 y se enfoca en estudiar, registrar y difundir los carnavales de los siguientes cuatro pueblos zoques de Chiapas: Copainalá, San Fernando, Tuxtla Gutiérrez y Ocozocoautla de Espinosa. La creación de espacios para la difusión e investigación sostenible de la cultura zoque como también el entrenamiento de jóvenes profesionales forman parte integral de este proyecto.
Este acercamiento visual es una muestra que tiene como base la colección de fotos tomadas por la investigadora principal y los alumnos asociados al Proyecto desde las licenciaturas en Arqueología y en Lenguas con Enfoque Turístico de la Facultad de Humanidades de la UNICACH y se enfoca al Carnaval zoque de Coyatoc o Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. Una introducción contextualiza describe el Carnaval y sus elementos llamativos, y explica por qué debemos de conocer, cuidar y fortalecer esta valiosa tradición y costumbre.

Teobert Maler (1842-1917) es considerado uno de los más activos e importantes fotógrafos expedicionarios en México, el que descubrió y documentó entre 1886 y 1910 innumerables ruinas mayas en la península de Yucatán y en el territorio de Petén en Guatemala. Con este libro se busca iluminar esa fase fotográfica de Maler, así como la gran diversidad de sus motivos, a fin de promover una nueva percepción y una contextualización más amplia de sus fotografías de carácter arqueológico, notables desde el punto de vista técnico y estético.
