Este libro es el resultado de un trabajo de campo realizado por Gerardo Castillo Guzmán entre 1990 y 1993 en algunas comunidades campesinas de Cusco, ofreciéndonos ricas observaciones etnográficas en las que se pregunta por la importancia individual y social de la embriaguez en los Andes. Siguiendo las ideas de Víctor Turner sobre transformaciones de las estructuras sociales y de Erving Goffman sobre construcción de identidades en relaciones cara a cara, analiza las borracheras como momentos de gran acción que rompen el curso de la vida cotidiana, creando una atmósfera de quiebre de roles y de jerarquías sociales, especialmente en las de género y etnicidad.

"Historia de la cerveza en México" recorre el azaroso camino de esta bebida en el territorio americano, desde su llegada al Nuevo Mundo tras la conquista española, los primeros intentos para su fabricación, hasta la difícil etapa de aceptación durante la época novohispana y su posterior consolidación durante el siglo XX. En el presente volumen la autora señala que aunque la cerveza no necesariamente fue la primer bebida fermentada que llegó al paladar humano, sin duda fue una de las más antiguas y hoy es, quizá, la más popular del mundo.

En todos los casos, podremos identificar sus cuestionamientos y dudas sobre lo que hacen, ya sea por su entorno o por ellas mismas, pero todas, sin excepción, plantean párrafos concisos donde manifiestan sus razones para seguir adelante en este camino.
